STAYING WARM: Loss of body heat, "hypothermia", is the major contributing factor to death or injury and the major cause of discomfort on river trips. Even in clear, 70 degree weather the wrong combination of water temperature, wind, and wet clothing can bring on this condition. Wool, pyle, polypropylene, rainsuits, and wetsuits can prevent hypothermia. If you have a wetsuit or access to one, bring it. If not, we recommend renting one of our wetsuits. The extra warmth and comfort is well worth the cost. In the absence of a wetsuit bring plenty of wool, polypropylene, or pyle and a good rain suit. Cotton and acrylic clothing, ESPECIALLY BLUE JEANS or SWEATS, are NOT ACCEPTABLE because they hold cold moisture next to your skin.

CAMERAS: If you wish to take expensive camera equipment, a good watertight container is a 50 caliber ammunition can lined with foam or styrofoam to prevent damage to the camera. These containers are usually available at military surplus stores (we have several of these available as loaners). Watertight inflatable camera bags are also fine. The watertight integrity of your container should be checked in your bathtub prior to the trip. An alternative to your expensive equipment is to purchase a disposable waterproof camera. We have these available for purchase in our retail store.

STORAGE SPACE: For overnight trips care should be taken to obtain a compact sleeping bag and ground pad as these take up the most space. We will provide you with one waterproof bag about the size of a large duffel bag, 3.2 cubic feet. With the exception of tents and camera equipment, if it does not fit into the bag, you can not bring it. We will provide a place to put your tent and camera equipment.
